Understanding your DNA and Family History
Duke Executive Health provides its clients personalized genomic testing services that will help you to understand
your DNA and use this knowledge with your physician to plan for a
healthier future.
Using a
genome-wide scan, we are able to provide a detailed analysis of your
DNA to give you important insight into your genetic predisposition to
a variety of health conditions. Following the sequencing of the human genome, large association
studies are finding new linkages between genetic markers and risks of
complex diseases and conditions. This information is compiled into a
comprehensive report that allows you to understand your results and
work with your Duke Executive Health physician to reduce your risk –
and focus your health efforts on what matters most. Your Duke
Executive Health physician and genetic counselor will help you
understand your results and discuss how to integrate this information
into your life.
At the same time, the limits of these
studies have deepened our appreciation for the value of using family
history to uncover clues to disease risk.
Empower your health! Incorporate an assessment of genetic and genomic risk factors into your strategic health plan.

Familial Genetic Risk Assessment
Do certain diseases run in the family? Are multiple health
concerns actually related? Am I at increased risk? Frequently, the
first step to learning about your underlying genetic health risks is to
examine your family health history.
Family health history is the most powerful medical tool for
identifying individuals at risk for complex diseases such as cancer,
heart disease, diabetes and others. Within families, relatives share
similar environmental and genetic backgrounds. As a result, family
health history reflects the combination of both genetic and
environmental factors on risks for disease. Using up-to-date genetic
association research, certified genetic counselors will provide
detailed review and personalized genetic risk assessment based upon
your family history. You receive an extensive report on the conditions
in your family and how they may affect your health reviewed in a
one-on-one consultation with the genetic counselor.
This service is provided by the
Institute for Genome Sciences & Policy
(IGSP) at Duke utilizing innovative technology and expert assessment to
help inform you of genetic factors important to your health.
The Familial Genetic Risk Assessment package is priced at $225.
